Corning and Meta have commenced construction on an expanded cable manufacturing facility in North Carolina to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The project is part of a broader multi-year partnership between the two companies, under which Corning will provide advanced optical fibre, cable and connectivity solutions for Meta’s data centres. The agreement, valued at up to $6 billion, is intended to accelerate the development of high-performance computing infrastructure required for AI applications.
As part of the initiative, Corning is increasing its manufacturing capacity across the state, including a significant expansion at its optical cable facility in Hickory, where Meta will serve as a key customer.
The investment is expected to strengthen domestic supply chains and support job creation, with Corning anticipating a workforce increase of approximately 15 to 20 per cent in North Carolina.
The expanded facility will play a critical role in producing high-density fibre optic infrastructure needed to meet the demands of next-generation AI data centres, enabling faster data transmission and improved performance.
Overall, the collaboration underscores the growing importance of optical connectivity in scaling AI technologies and highlights the role of advanced manufacturing in supporting digital infrastructure development.
