Tata Electronics and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop industry-ready talent for India’s expanding semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
The partnership will focus on building specialised skills needed for semiconductor manufacturing facilities and supporting infrastructure. Tata Electronics and GSV will work with Tata Electronics’ partners L&T EduTech and Jacobs Solutions to develop multi-party collaboration frameworks covering training, certification and industry-oriented learning.
The collaboration will include curriculum development, joint certification programmes and practical skilling initiatives in areas such as semiconductor facility engineering and infrastructure systems, project management, and logistics and supply chain management. The programmes are intended to prepare students and professionals for roles associated with the construction and operation of semiconductor fabrication facilities.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics, said semiconductor fabs require specialised expertise across engineering, construction, infrastructure, project execution, manufacturing and supply-chain management. He said developing a strong domestic talent pipeline would be essential as India works to establish a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.
Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, said the partnership would enable GSV to expand its academic and research activities into emerging semiconductor and infrastructure-related areas. He added that students would gain greater exposure to industry requirements and specialised learning opportunities linked to the semiconductor sector.
Under the partnership, Tata Electronics, L&T EduTech and Jacobs Solutions will contribute subject-matter expertise, while GSV will support academic and research components of the programmes.
Tata Electronics is developing India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned investment of US$11 billion. The company aims to serve customers across sectors including automotive, mobile, IoT, artificial intelligence, aerospace and defence.
The agreement strengthens industry-academia collaboration and aims to create a future-ready workforce capable of supporting India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing and infrastructure ecosystem.
